Moldova, « small country, big heart »
Écrit par Team BXL sur 27 septembre 2022
Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th, Moldova, the poorest country in Europe, has seen over 500,000 refugees crossing its borders. Just over 90,000 of them are currently still registered in the country – almost 4% of the entire population. How did Moldova, relatively inexperienced with immigration and itself confronted with an important economic crisis, manage to deal with this challenge?
Just before summer, the Euradio Brussels team interviewed migration experts, representatives of NGOs and individuals who decided to receive refugees in their own houses. “Moldova has totally changed; it has become a shelter. People tried to come here and we received them like brothers and sisters.”
